Bush Pledges To Reinvigorate Party
In a speech given Thursday night at a National Republican Congressional Committee dinner President George W. Bush pledged to recover the Republican party’s control of the Senate and the House by 2008. He touted tax cuts, a strong economy and the creation of 7.5 million jobs as proof that his policies are strong and correct.
The dinner was attended by more than 1,200 people and raised over $6 million dollars for Republican congressional candidates. Attendees were treated to a nearly 30 minute speech by the president that touched on his wishes to rework the social security system and his reasoning why the Iraq war must continue even in the face of plummeting support for the war both in congress and across the nation.
He reiterated his now well known mantra that troops must stay on the ground “…until the job is done”. He claimed pulling out before Baghdad is secure would result only in escalations of violence and the emboldening of the enemy. He closed with the common theme that if the enemy is not defeated in Iraq they will bring the fight to America itself. That is something Mr Bush claimed he would not let happen.
